“It’s not the will to win that matters. Everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.” - Bear Bryant

Harvest is here. The culmination of your hard work. The measure of how successful this year has been. It’s also the perfect time to reflect on how well your plan met your goals for this year and to begin planning for a successful next year.

Your irrigation equipment is a key factor in your plan and should be carefully considered in its contribution to your success. A pivot is a complex machine. Is your pivot ready to perform the way you need it to? Can it do more to contribute to your success?

To ensure your irrigation equipment is ready for next season, it should go through a complete preventative maintenance regimen during the off season. Small issues can be prevented from turning into major failures. Down time, when you NEED to be irrigating, can be avoided. Warrantied items can be replaced reducing your costs. Though you may approach this as a DIY project, your local dealer will have trained technicians that can also perform this service. These technicians have the right tools and parts on hand, as well as the experience to predict when parts may fail.

It’s easy to forget about your irrigation equipment once the irrigation season is over. Would you see more success if you were irrigating more acres? Is your center pivot doing all that it can for you? Would an improved sprinkler package get more water to your crops, where you want it? Would the addition of a corner or bender or an end gun get additional acres? Would an upgrade to the panel and software allow you to manage your center pivot remotely and save you time for more important things? These are the questions you should be asking yourself now, while you have the time to properly evaluate them.
